Music is something that has had such an immense impact on my life. My journey began at 10 years old when I took interest in the viola. Within the four years that proceeded that, I went from playing viola to playing piano. In addition to that, I took up songwriting and poetry. Freshman to junior years of high school were spent overseas in Italy, where I became involved with the local church doing choir and occasionally taking on a role as a youth worship leader. Desiring to take my songwriting to another level, I got a beginner-level music-making program and dabbled (albeit briefly) in it to add some flavor to my small portfolio.
At that time, I mostly took interest in rap and gospel music. However, in my senior year of high school, I took a music appreciation class which opened up my whole perspective about music, its composition, and the skill of the artists behind it all. I learned a lot about classical music and the virtuosos who emerged centuries ago. What an experience! Delving deeper into the lives and techniques of Beethoven, Bach, Vivaldi, and many more, it was as if a whole new world was opened to me; one that I am still exploring to this very day. What that class really did was debug my partiality as far as music choices and lay a fertile foundation for my growing curiosity and skill in music as an art.
In 2013, I purchased a more advanced music production software called Cubase, along with an acoustic guitar. I tried my hand with both, but by then, the busyness of being a wife and a mom caught up to me, preventing me from gaining too much ground.
From my adolescence to adulthood, my respect and appreciation for music has grown and continues to grow the more I take in and study it as a form of artistic expression. Beyond that, I also find music to be very therapeutic; something that nurtures the soul. It can mollify, instruct, embolden, electrify, unite, and ignite. An incredibly powerful manifesto which has a dutiful purpose in our everyday life.
The last four and a half years have proved eventful and exciting as the Lord has inspired me to begin writing music and poetry once again. It is as though my tongue has been loosened as my heart and lips pour out the different ways that the Lord has been teaching and shaping me. My intentions are to put out a full album filled with specially crafted musical masterpieces pulled from the pages of my life. Rhythmic stories used to propel listeners to a deeper knowledge of the Lord and pique their interest in Him in a variety of ways.
As I mentioned before, my notebook is still expanding, and I believe there is still much to be learned from the world of music. It is an honor that the Lord has selected me to be apart of it.
